We are living in a time of unprecedented technological change. The exponential growth of information technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), is transforming every aspect of our lives. Some experts believe that we are entering the “knee of the curve” which is the stage at which an exponential trend becomes noticeable and explosive. This means that we are about to witness a change in basic assumptions that will take us out of the centralized, segmented, mechanical age and into the decentralized all-at-once epoch of AI.
One scenario is that AI will become ubiquitous and pervasive in every domain and industry, from healthcare to education, from entertainment to finance, from agriculture to manufacturing. AI will not only augment human capabilities but also create new possibilities and opportunities for innovation and value creation. AI will also challenge many existing assumptions and norms about work, society, ethics, and governance. We will need to adapt and evolve our institutions, policies, laws, and cultures to ensure that AI serves human values and goals.
However, this scenario is not inevitable or deterministic. It depends on how we design, develop, deploy, and regulate AI systems. It also depends on how we educate ourselves and others about the potential benefits and risks of AI. We have a responsibility as individuals and as a collective to shape the future of AI in a way that aligns with our vision and values. We need to be proactive rather than reactive in anticipating and addressing the challenges and opportunities that AI presents.
We are at a critical juncture in history where our choices will have profound implications for generations to come. We should not be afraid or complacent about the future of AI but rather embrace it with curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and compassion. We should not let AI define us but rather use it as a tool to enhance our humanity.
The pace of posts will pick up and I’ll be sharing more of what I’m seeing firsthand in the world of AI and entertainment. Stay tuned.
